Only Two Villages in Kampong Cham Still Do Not Have Electricity

KAMPONG CHAM: The Governor of Kampong Cham Province, Un Chanda, confirmed that there are more than 210,000 houses across 921 villages in in Kampong Cham province, wherein 99.78% are connected to the electrical grid, while only two villages are still without electricity.

Governor Un Chanda confirmed in a press conference on the achievements made over the past five years by the Kampong Cham Provincial Administration on Friday morning, 3 February 2023, that the two villages that do not yet have electricity are located in remote locations that are difficult to reach and connect to the electrical grid.

“Actually, we had plans in 2021 [to bring electricity to the villages], but connecting the network [there] is complicated, the village is far away from the main network and another village is on an island, thus complicating the situation and failing to bring electricity to the people," said the Governor.

However, he added that the two villages still do have access to electricity through the use of generators and solar panels.

The provincial governor said that Kampong Cham province has two substations, one in Krala commune, Kampong Siem district with a power of 300 megawatts, and the other in Prey Kak commune, Stung Trang district with a power of 50 megawatts.

Additionally, there are 41 public and private electricity suppliers and distributors with electricity licenses covering 10 districts and 923 villages in Kampong Cham province.
